Chobe - I'm Not Quite Sure

This morning we set out on our drive to Chobe.  Stop at Zimbabwe border - get exit stamp - drive into Botswana - get entry stamp and we're on our way.  Our morning safari was on the Chobe River which runs right through Botswana and Namibia.  It was so lush and green.

We saw Elephants,

Buffalo,

Impala,

Waterbuck,

Hippos (one of which started to charge our boat so we couldn't stop),

Crocs,

Lizards

and lots of different birds.

It was fantastic!

Then lunch and the afternoon drive (if you can really call it that).  I'm now a believer that the success of the drive is all in the guide you have.  Ours was horrible.  We had three vehicles and they were all apparently coordinated to follow the same path.  None of the park guides were talking to each other about sightings.  We kept telling our driver that we wanted to hunt for a full mane Lion and he said it's too hot and they are sleeping.  We all just looked at each other and were saying well why didn't we do this portion this morning and the river one in the afternoon.  One of the jeeps even broke down.  The guides always cut the engine when there is something good to look at so you are as quiet as possible.  Well they got ready to go and it wouldn't start.

We did see a Zebra up close,

a Puku,

several Sable,

and a male Kudu

As we were leaving the park, we saw two male Giraffes fighting.  It was awesome.  They fight with their necks.  All total, were only in the park for 1 hour 45 minutes.   Extremely disappointing considering I've read nothing but fantastic things about Chobe.

My favorite by far is Kruger.  Our guide Elvis was superb

Flight of Angels

This was AWESOME.  I've never been in a helicopter before but it was smooth.  We were weighed (the scale said ouch!), a team picture was taken and we waited for the chopper to arrive.  We were hurried in, buckled up and before I knew it we were lifting off.  We did two figure eights around the falls themselves and because a couple in our group was taking the longer flight, we got the added bonus of seeing all of the gorge.  The quality is not the best shooting through helicopter window glass but you'll get the idea.  Here you go:

First off - the view from my room this morning.

Our group hit Victoria Falls early this morning before it started getting hot.  It's way over 100 degrees here by 11:00am.  It was simply amazing.  They definitely thunder and you definitely get soaked at some of the lookout points.  Take a look
