Rain, Rain go Away!!

This was our full day outing to Cape Peninsula and it was raining, windy and cold.

First stop - Hout Bay - fishy, fishy. It's a fishing town on the western coast of Cape Peninsula, but very pretty. This was a "comfort" stop and for browsing the covered market stalls.

Next stop was Cape Point where we saw a BonteBok - very unique looking animal (I would consider it part of the Antelope family - I'll have to research that).

Cape Point is the southwestern most tip of Africa. The actual southern tip is at Cape Agulhas (about 150 km east of Cape Town). By this time it was raining too hard to attempt taking the funicular up to the old lighthouse. It did die down enough to take some pictures of the Cape of Good Hope though and some of the area.

Now heading northbound on the eastern coast of Cape Peninsula, we stopped for lunch in Simon's Town for chicken & fish. It is presently the home of the Cape Town Navy. 

Next was a highlight of the trip - a walk to Boulder's Beach to see the African Penguins. They were the cutest little things. Most of the time they stood at attention and then they would run to the water or under the bridges like they were hiding from the camera.

Last stop of the day was Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden. What can I say, simply breathtaking!!

Topped off the day with a dinner at Belthazar - BBQ chicken kabob and rice, a shot of Amarula and hot tea. It was fantastic!!! So glad I made a reservation a while back because this place was hopping. Unfortunately the Cape Wheel was closed for the day - maybe tomorrow.
